Describe the prototype(s) your school will focus on. Get creative. Be sure to describe the various approaches staff will take, what you will keep your eye on and how staff plan to document their results.
Approaching: community partnering (speakers, experts); choices in visual literacy; learning design focused on relevancy; increased student choice in assignments; collaborative norms being practiced for learning and working; Common World Walls; cross curricular connections
Monitoring: students being able to apply concepts; skill transfer; increased assignment completion; evidence of choice in knowledge representation; engagement; cross curricular connections; increased student ownership of learning
Documenting: increased student attendance rates; student and parent feedback; reflection (student and practitioner); student improvement in use of vocabulary; students indicating engagement and meaning in literacy, learning; pre and post semester surveys.
Our participants (students, families, and staff) most valued being able to add their voice to what they perceive as the purpose and meaning in learning. Our students were excited to have the opportunity to talk about their learning needs and what improvement they would like to see in the meaning of literacy and increase opportunity for engagement in learning. Our families were excited about sharing perspectives in enhancing and enriching learning for their students. The prototype aligns with LEARN in leveraging the capabilities of our students and learning community, while engaging in purposeful work to build skills and competencies. All participants would like more time to dig deeper into needs and strategies. We need to further investigate effective ways to enhance building adolescent literacy. Our next steps are outlined in what we are going to try, as well as the plan. We will involve our literacy specialists from RVS, as well as search for meaningful resources on the topic. In addition, we will continue to build on our repertoire of engaging ways to instruct.
