Real - life connections
Intentional application of skills to other domains, careers, parents, experts
Staff are brining in experts to work with students. Some of the experts are in government (the mayor of Airdrie), others in media (a weather new reporting team) and others work with animals (the Earth Rangers). Others include presentations from MADD, the police, authors and motivational speakers.
As a staff we are watching to make sure students are engaged, and taking away the message being delivered. Long term are these interactions creating meaningful experiences that students reflect on to enhance their learning.
Teachers got excited to work with experts, to share these real world experiences with their students, and to hear students share their take-aways, having had a memorable and meaningful engagement with their learning.
This prototype leveraged our staff networks, engaged the school community, stake holders appreciated the students having memorable real world experiences, Students were able to reflect on what they experienced well after the time with the expert, and staff reflected as teams on whether the expert provided the experience they were hoping for, the prototype nurtured students, providing them with intellectual, creative, emotional and physical benefits.
