How might we?:

How might we further incorporate the use of our outdoor learning spaces to enhance student learning?

Describe the prototype(s) your school will focus on. Get creative. Be sure to describe the various approaches staff will take, what you will keep your eye on and how staff plan to document their results.

What will we try?
  • Seek multiple in and guidance from elders and leaders on the Tsuut'ina Nation
  • Provide multiple entry points to staff to promote the use of the outdoors; staff meetings, professional learning, co-teaching, leadership students
  • Actively pursue connections with community experts and neighbours to build meaningful outdoor experiences for staff and students
  • Actively connect with other Rocky View Schools to begin establishing reciprocal relationships and promote the use and access of our outdoor learning spaces

What will we keep our eye on?
  • With additional people accessing the "Back 40", how will we maintain the ecological integrity of the area?
  • Will there be the development of a variety of unit and lesson plans that reflect place based learning, outdoor spaces, and an indigenous perspective?
  • Are reciprocal partnerships formed with a variety of schools; both with RVS and beyond?

How will we document our results?
  • Ongoing reflections and sharing during staff meetings and professional learning days?
  • Making learning visible online through Twitter, Facebook, school bulletin boards, and through the school blog.
