What is our K-8 Identity?

How might we?:

How might we develop and define "our identity" as we evolve into a K-8 school in 2020-21?

Describe the prototype(s) your school will focus on. Get creative. Be sure to describe the various approaches staff will take, what you will keep your eye on and how staff plan to document their results.

What will you try?
  • What does GIANT stand for?

  • G -

  • I -

  • A -

  • N -

  • T -

What will you keep your eye on; what will occur that will give you insight?
  • Consultation of Staff, Students and Parents around the above question(s) but, also, "What should a K-8 school:  Look Like, Sound Like, Feel Like?"

  • Use of various tools ad activities such as placemat activities provided via Spring and Fall Playbook decks.

  • Consideration of what other schools have done similarly in this regard.

  • Past experience of staff who have been through the opening of either a new school or who have participated in a grade re-configuration of an existing school.

  • Student voice will be paramount in this prototype.  They will be the ones living their K-8 experience at HCS.

  • Learning throughout this prototyping experience will inform future work of new mission and vision statements for HCS.

How will you document your results?

  • Early conversations documented via stickie notes generated during brainstorming activities

  • Digital documentation / digital tools available to capture conversations and process.

  • End result: sharing of GIANT Goals (to be implemented in 2020-21) via social media, newsletters, assemblies / pep rallies, etc. With an eye (next) towards creating a new and aligned Mission and Vision for HCS.
