#MeToo - Are We Addressing This for Students?
In the age of the Me Too Movement, Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein and Brett Kavanaugh, how are we as a jurisdiction addressing this? There is clearly a misconception that victims of sexual harassment and assault will always report it. The younger the victim, the less likely they will come forward. How are we empowering our youth to recognize predatory behaviour and abusive relationships and speak up or tell someone they trust about them? How do we show victims that despite the fact that multiple abusers such as Trump and Kavanaugh get away with this behaviour and remain successful, that there are in fact consequences to be had and that justice will prevail? This is certainly a conversation for parents to address but I believe that schools need to open up a conversation about how we can do our part to combat the rampant problem our young girls and boys are facing. Ideas?
