How might we build authentic connections with all of the learners in our classrooms?

Building authentic relationships and getting to know students and what they need is a key focus for our inclusion prototype. Having intentional conversations with students and ensuring that everyone student has a connection with an adult in our building is the foundation for our work in this area. Weekly SRG meetings will help us problem solve and identify ways we can connect with students that are struggling. Using Ross Greene's approach to developing lagging skills also allows us to target and work on specific skills and strategies to help specific students learn and grow. Getting to know each person's story and shifting the mindset to focus on the positives that each student brings, helps us build on student strengths.
As a result of this work, we are expecting that students will be happy and willing to participate in all aspects of school life, they will have more success in their classes, and they will have trusted adults that know them well.
